Keys & Security

There are three keys 🔑 The smallest key is for the front door of the building. The largest key is for the top and bottom locks of the apartment door; open these locks first. The middle key is for the middle lock

Every time you leave the apartment, please lock at least the middle lock. At your departure, please lock all three apartment door locks. When you exit the front door of the building, please make sure the door is shut behind you

The key for the middle lock also opens the large windows in the kitchen and master bedroom

Double bed (200x160 cm) in the master bedroom

Couch in the living room can be converted to a double bed (200x160 cm) by removing the 6 cushions and pulling the metal bed frame up and towards yourself

Inflatable double bed (200x160 cm) in the cupboard in the small room next to the living room. Electric pump to inflate the mattress is built-in. To pump up the bed, open the small lid in the mattress and remove the power cord. Plug the power cord into the mattress and a power outlet. Push the triangle facing up. Don’t sit or lay on the mattress while the motor is running. If the motor starts making a rumbling noise, push the triangle facing up to stop the motor. If the mattress is too hard, push the triangle with the stripes to release a bit of air. After use, to pump the air out of the mattress, push the triangle facing down with the power cord plugged in; push the triangle again to stop the motor

Kitchen

The kitchen is fully equipped. Feel free to use food provisions

We use neither the dishwasher nor the microwave oven, but if you want to give them a try, please go ahead

User manuals are in one of the kitchen drawers: second row from left, top drawer

Waste

Waste is separated for recycling purposes into general waste, paper and glass. Plastic and metal are thrown out with the general waste, and picked out by robots 🤖 at waste sorting facilities (so they say)

Waste bin with 3 lids in the kitchen, for paper and cardboard (left), and general waste (right). The middle lid is broken. Glass goes in the bottom drawer next to the waste bin. Please put a plastic bag in the general waste bin (if there is not one already) before you throw in any waste. Plastic bags in the top kitchen drawer next to the waste bin

Amsterdam has removed general waste containers from the neigbourhood, and since then, disposal of general waste has become a major hassle. If we will be in Amsterdam shortly after your visit, you don’t have to bother with general waste disposal, leave it to us

In case you need to dispose of waste, locations of waste and recycling containers are provided in the Neighbourhood section of this site

Zyra

Zyra

Vacuum Cleaner

You will find our robot Zyra in the storage room in front of the terrace. Her charging station is underneath the white cupboard on the right. Before asking her to clean the floors, gently pull her towards you, empty her dustbin by gently lifting the flap on top, removing the dustbin by pushing the white lever inwards and lifting the bin up, opening the lid by pushing the two triangles away from the dustbin, and emptying the dustbin in the general waste bin

Push Zyra’s middle button (with the line) to start the cleaning, the button on the right (with the house) to interrupt the cleaning and return to the charging station, and the button on the left (with the rounded square) to spot clean when you have spilled something. Don’t use her on wet floors, she is allergic to water. Don’t leave any charging cables or other small items on the floor, she will eat them

There is also a regular vacuum cleaner in the cupboard to the right of the washing machine

Laundry

When you leave, please put sheets and covers that you have used in the laundry baskets. No need to wash them, unless we have asked you to do so. The four rattan baskets in the utility room in the open cupboard opposite the washing machine serve as laundry baskets. The white baskets are for white, the brown for coloured laundry. One full basket will fill  the washing machine. Don’t put wet towels or other wet items in the baskets, please spread them on the floor of the utility room

WASHING MACHINE: Feel free to do your laundry. Please make sure you have enough time before your departure. A regular washing machine cycle lasts about two hours, a short cycle about 45 minutes. It is not possible to open the door of the washing machine in the middle of a cycle. If you have an emergency, stop the washing cycle and set the dial to “Afpompen” (Pumping). Do not try to force the door open before the light indicates “Klaar” (Finished), because you will break the handle

The two magnetic balls with holes reduce the hardness of the water. The spiky plastic balls separate the laundry items during the wash. The content of the large ball slowly gives off mineral salts that replaces the need for detergents. There is also a small cotton bag with peels of the fruit of the Himalayan Reetha (Soapberry) tree. Two peels are enough for three washing cycles (in combination with the large ball). If you don’t trust all this ancient modernity, there is probably some regular laundry detergent in the cupboard on the right of the dryer

Translations of switch and button options: “Kreukherstellend”: Non-iron; “Witte/bonte was”: White/coloured laundry; “Snel”: Fast (a short cycle of about an hour); “Klaar”: Washing is finished

DRYING: There is a drying rack in the utilities room. If you are in a hurry, feel free to use the drying machine. First empty the water reservoir (upper left drawer) and clean the lint filter (inside the door, pull up)

Translations of switch and button options: “Witte was, Bonte was”: White/coloured laundry; ”Kreukherstellend”: No-iron; ”Voorzichtig”: Carefull. There are 4 levels of dryness that can be set: “Strijkdroog”: for ironing, “Kastdroog”: for cupboard, very dry, extra dry. The wool balls help the drying process, best leave them in the dryer

At your departure, if you leave behind any laundry to dry, please arrange it either on the drying rack (preferred), or run it in the dryer with the cycle set to “Extra droog”

IRONING: You can find an iron and an ironing board in the wardrobe cupboard in the middle of the corridor
